SOPHOCLES (496 B.C. - 406 B.C.) The most classic of the three tragic poets. Only seven of his tragedies are nowadays in a complete form: "Electra", "Antigone", "Philoctetes", "Trachiniae", "Ajax", "Oedipus Tyrannus", "Oe- dipus at Colonus" and also some fragments of the satyrical drama "Icheutai".
