FOKAS, ANTONIS (Athens, 1889 - 1986) Great costume designer of the greek theatre. He first appeared at the performance of "Oedipus Tyrannus" in 1919 and from 1931 and onwards worked as a permanent designer at the NATIONAL THEATRE together with the scenographer CLEOVOULOS CLONIS. His costumes in "Hamlet", "Julius Ceasar", "Othello", "Antony and Cleopatra" and mostly in the greek tragedies were very often characterised as masterpieces. |
